The Islip Public Schools Office of Fine and Performing Arts and Islip High School are proud to announce the selection of three students selected as alternates to the All-State Honor Ensembles and eight students to perform with the All-County Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

Student musicians in the All-State festival were selected based on their performance in the NY State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Solo and Ensemble Festival. All- County Vocal Jazz participants were selected through an audition process that took place last spring. These students were selected to participate from hundreds of applicants throughout Suffolk County and the state.

Students prepare for the festivals with the assistance of their school music teachers and then participate in a series of rehearsals that conclude with a concert. The students will have the opportunity to work and perform under the leadership of highly skilled directors from the college music community and the professional music industry. All-State performances will be during the NYSSMA Winter Conference, December 2-5, 2021 in Rochester, NY. The All-County Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform at the SCMEA Day of Jazz, held on Nov. 6 at East Islip High School. Working with the group this year as conductor is American vocalist and director of Elvanelle music, Kimberly Hawkey.

“We are extremely thrilled to have these remarkable student musicians representing Islip Schools in the All-State and All-County festivals. Their selection is a testament to their hard work and their teachers’ support,” stated Brian Kroll, Director of Fine and Performing Arts for Islip Schools.
